As per FSS Act, 2006 every Food Business Operator in the country is required to be licensed under the Food Safety & Standards Authority of India. The licensing and registration procedure and requirements are regulated by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. FSS Regulations

Eligibility Criteria for FSSAI Licensing Revised on 04 May 2020.

Major changes In Kind of Business (KOB) and Eligibility of Food Business Operators (FBO):
  • Mandatory CENTRAL FSSAI License for 
    • Proprietary Foods
    • Novel Foods
    • Exporters (100% EOU, Manufacturer Exporter & Merchant Exporters)
    • E-Commerce (Online Sale/Retail of Food & Beverages)
  • Added New Category / Kind of Business
    • Food Vending Agencies
    • Departmental Canteens at the premises of Central Govt. Institutions
    • Mid-day Meal Caterer
  • Explained Category / Kind of Business
    • Petty food business
    • Manufacturing, Processing and Repacking

Food Licensing and Registration System (FLRS)  is an online system launched by FSSAI to facilitate FBOs in India to apply for license / registration certificate and help them track their applications during the course of processing.
As of date 35 States / UTs issue license / registration certificate are online on FLRS Food Licensing and Registration System by FSSAI.
