Cold Storage Order, 1980

The Order was promulgated under EC Act to ensure proper refrigeration and general hygienic conditions of Cold Storage by regulating its growth, setup, technical requirements for various food  stuffs, which include:

  • Fresh, frozen, dried or preserved fruits
  • Fresh, frozen, dehydrated or preserved vegetables including roots and tubers
  • Fresh, frozen, dried or preserved meat
  • Fresh, frozen, dried fish
  • Eggs, whether shelled or unshelled
  • Milk and milk products
  • Spices and condiments
  • Any other food or food products notified from time to time

Some Provisions of the Order

  • For setting up of a Cold Storage, license is to be obtained by submitting an application with necessary details to the designated authority notified by the Central Govt. at Central or State level
  • License is granted after ascertaining requirements like structural design, layout and other facilities for storage of different food stuffs including sanitary and hygienic conditions of cold rooms
